Executive Summary
The GO Project believes that sustained, individualized, and responsive academic, social emotional, and family intervention, beginning in the early elementary years, is the most effective pathway to closing achievement gaps between resourced and under-resourced public school students in New York City. Our holistic K-8 program model differs for elementary and middle school students, but the program dosage is the same:
**GO Summer** is a rigorous five-week, full-day academic and enrichment curriculum in July and August to prevent summer academic slide.
**GO School** engages student participants with a focused, seven-month Saturday curriculum of academic skill-building from October-May.
**GO Families** is a year-round social service to help parents create positive learning environments at home and school and advocate for their children within the public education system.
Since 1968, GO has helped thousands of students achieve educational success through grade-level academic and social emotional progress and by connecting families with social supports. GO’s community – students and families of color who have low-incomes and have been historically marginalized and relegated to under-resourced schools – influences all programming, inspiring representation in curriculum, use of equity-aligned language, identity exploration, and culturally responsive practice. The GO Families team empowers parents with the tools to address their child’s developmental needs. Through their extensive experience within the public school system, GO instructional staff reflects student perspectives and informs GO’s salient approach.
