Executive Summary

Missouri Jobs with Justice (MOJwJ) is a multiracial coalition of over 100 labor, community, and faith organizations and thousands of individuals working together to improve the lives of working Missourians. We organize at the grassroots level to build and mobilize public support for policies that increase income and health equity for working families and people of color. We do this through voter engagement, community organizing, and policy advocacy.

Our members are from the communities that benefit from the policy changes we seek: low-wage workers, people in labor unions, people of color, and people and organizations committed to economic justice. In deep collaboration with staff, members set the direction, priorities, and strategies for the organization. Members serve in leadership roles including as board members, chapter leaders, and spokespeople with the media. Members also educate policymakers, talk with voters, organize phone banks, and recruit and train new members.

MOJwJ has contributed to the ability of workers and people of color to improve their well-being through grassroots, member-driven campaigns that have: increased MO’s minimum wage, expanded Medicaid to cover more people, won paid sick leave for St. Louis City and County employees, and protected the rights of workers to bargain collectively. Each of these create opportunities for working families to improve their well-being. Combined, they make Missouri’s economy and healthcare system more equitable. To sustain gains in systemic equity and strengthen our ability to gain more, we engage large numbers of voters in structured advocacy campaigns, increasing their ability to influence public policy.
