Executive Summary
At Horizons Unlimited of San Francisco, Inc. (Horizons), we stand resolute in our commitment to justice, dedicated to empowering and uplifting Latinx, BIPOC, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ youth. For nearly six decades, our transformative work has included employment, gender-affirming, multimedia, and mental health services as well as pivotal substance use prevention, intervention, and treatment programs. We extend our reach across community centers, local schools, and various community-based organization sites, crafting inclusive spaces where San Francisco's youth can flourish.
Horizons’ programs nurture culturally affirming care, dismantling mental health stigma and building resilience. With 15 strategic initiatives rooted in social-emotional learning, we forge pathways in gender affirmation, workforce development, and the creative arts. Our unwavering dedication to prevention ensures holistic growth, allowing every young person to embrace their journey with confidence and authenticity.
Our diverse staff mirrors our community—90% are people of color, over 60% speak Spanish, and 35% are former participants who now lead services as staff , including our Executive Director. These shared experiences fuel our mission's drive.
Embedded in our ethos is prevention, healing and confronting challenges head-on. Our workforce programs equip youth with essential skills for navigating complex landscapes and preparing for gainful employment and career opportunities, while gender-affirming spaces embrace and celebrate every identity. The creative arts offer industry specific skill development and provide platforms for young voices to rise and be heard.
