Executive Summary
Family Nurturing Center has a thirty-year history of building nurturing communities where children are cherished, families are supported, and healthy human development is promoted by all. FNC partners with families and communities to achieve substantive improvement in their well-being through a four-pronged approach that includes:
* Delivering the Nurturing Parenting Program®, a 15-week experience proven to reduce the risk of child abuse. A recognized leader in the delivery of evidence-based parenting education, FNC adapts the program to serve a diverse community, offering cohorts in multiple languages for entire families together, for groups of fathers parenting on their own, for incarcerated parents, and for birth and foster families together.
* Supporting early childhood development by engaging parents and children *together* through home visiting for babies and toddlers; parent-child playgroups and early literacy initiatives; and child development screenings.
* Addressing barriers to raising healthy kids – barriers like poverty, language access, disproportionate risk of community violence and incarceration, and systemic racism. Nurturing parenting can have a profound impact on a child, but so do these systemic forces. Whether creating a safe space to trick-or-treat during a surge in gang violence; hosting a photography exhibit of Black fatherhood; or facilitating a community conversation, FNC challenges oppressive systems to build stronger communities.
* Growing the capacity for this important work through training and professional development across Massachusetts. FNC’s credentialed training team provides technical assistance for a wide range of audiences, from social workers to community-based providers.
