Executive Summary

Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York helps motivated New York City high school students rise above disadvantaged backgrounds. Our primary goal is to graduate young people who are physically, emotionally, and academically prepared for post-secondary education and successful lives. We believe all our students have the intrinsic qualities to be successful scholars and productive citizens. We support them by removing barriers that get in the way of their success by offering access to quality education, housing, and wellness services.

Since our inception in 1979, we have continued to evolve and expand our program offerings to meet the ever-changing needs of the community we serve. In 2014, our college readiness program began, with the goal to prepare our scholars for life post-graduation. Today our team of non-profit leaders and educators continue to meet the ever-evolving needs of our scholars by utilizing a holistic approach to the services we offer. We accomplish this by running a dual after-school and boarding program model offering services in academic success, college access, mental health, and residential life. Our academic success program provides individualized academic advising, tutoring, and experiential education. Our college access program offers students application assistance, college visits, internships, and financial aid advice. In addition, our mental health counselors offer individualized and group therapy sessions, focusing on building life skills around problem solving, communication and conflict resolution. Finally, our unique 5-day residential life program provides young people with a safe space to live while supporting their pursuit of self-sufficiency.
