Executive Summary

Black Girl Ventures’ (BGV) community is underrepresented entrepreneurs. As an organization, this is who we are too. Staff, board, and partners are primarily Black/brown women; although we engage the entire community to bridge gaps created for our community members.

We are who we serve. And our community is everything to us.

The key staff members - Omi Bell, Vanessa McDowell-Atlas, and Adrienne Blanco - are all Black women and entrepreneurs themselves. The same goes for our board - which includes the traditional community and Black/brown women entrepreneurs. Omi, the CEO/founder, launched BGV recognizing the challenges her businesses faced in gaining access to capital, community, and capacity building.

Now, that’s what BGV has meaningfully brought to our community: access to capital, community, and capacity building as Black/brown women entrepreneurs. Thanks to BGV, we’ve already reached 5,000 women who no longer have to just navigate the white, male world of entrepreneurship, they can thrive in it and have a community too. Our founders have continued to use the tools they built with BGV and are themselves supporting 3,000+ jobs. So, in just six years, we’ve seen a meaningful economic impact on more than 8,000 households of color.

We’ve provided training and support through our Pitch Program, expanded the community through our Emerging Leaders, and engaged a wider audience through training, education, and community engagement with BGV Connect. The next three years will take BGV’s work to the next level.
